How I Designed Anahata Collection's Website

I’ve been working with code since 1998. Over the years I’ve built internal tools, client sites, and full enterprise level applications, as well as more than a few projects that never saw the light of day. Yet, I always took a considerable interest in my work, even while employed by others. I remember actually the very first site I built for my employer Sento, a technical support call center, at the age of 17. I had added all these extra features and images and icons, and when my boss explained it to his boss, he said "Britton even added all these bells and whistles". That made me feel seen.

Honestly though, front-end work was never my gig. I secretly despised working on it. However, the tides have turned. Designing with AI is amazing. I can easily turn my thoughts and mental concepts into strong designs in a fraction of the time it took me without it. So, as I sat down to work on Anahata Collection, I was excited to allow my full imagination run.

I didn’t want another template site. I didn’t want something that looked like it came out of a design system or a page builder. I wanted the site to feel like it belonged to the work Carolee and I are actually doing — intentional, grounded, and personal. That meant I had to build it myself.

From the beginning I decided that none of the writing would be generated. Every word on the site was written by us. The only place I used AI was to help with coding and turning my ideas into implemented work more quickly.

Yes, of course we use AI to help us with copy, but that's only for cleaning up... spelling, grammar, etc. The basic stuff. Every piece of copy on this site is crafted by hand and with intention. It's a keep-sake for aestheticism.

I most likely spent more time that was valuable tweaking and playing with the design and flow, and it's still a work in progress. But it represents my commitment to making Anahata a genuine experience for users.

Namaste,

Britton
